Parched Riverbed Terrain This environment package is ideal for your desert missions and adventures on desktop platforms. The Unity terrain blends seamless into a low poly surrounding mesh, which in turn blends seamless into terrain baked onto the skybox to create the feeling of an endless landscape. With thorn trees, dead tree's, realistic porous rocks and rustic debris; this terrain will immerse your player in an arid landscape with no equal. Geology: Fault Scarp Mudstone Desert Extensive fault scarps cross-cut the area and the resulting tiered landscape is host to steep cliff faces and steep talus slopes of rocky debris and sand. The graded mudstone bedrock is covered by only a thin veneer of sediment while the deep rooted faults quickly transmit water to deep-seated aquifers well below the surface. This combination allows for only ephemeral streams to exist.

Geology: Eroded Deep Marine Shales The red hues of iron oxidation stain parts of this landscape where the deep anoxic environment once allowed iron-bearing minerals to precipitate from seawater. An underlying siltstone layer forms the bed of a transient river which undergoes long periods of drought with short intervals of flash flooding. A riverbed would typically consist of a channel which carries the water (when it flows) and a broader flat region on one or both sides (this is a floodplain). Anywhere water flows it will also flood, therefore this is found in even very arid regions.

Geology: Lava Field Basaltic Lava Flow A succession of basaltic lava flows has created this terrain on a hot-spot shield volcano in an arid region of the hemisphere. The collapse of lava tubes and underground lava lakes may over time leave a loose network of caverns and concealed overhangs.

Geology: Young Mountain Range, Uplifted Granitic Batholith, Uplifted Pluton The erosion resistant ridges of this young mountainous region are the result of a relatively recent uplift of a granitic batholith. The granite’s resilience creates the steep slopes and yields very little sedimentation. Lush valley floors are supported by groundwater aquifers charged from precipitation at the upper elevations.

The terrain itself is 500mx500m. It blends into a surrounding mesh that's 1.5km x 1.5km. Additionally a 4.5km x 4.5 km mesh is baked into the skybox. This means the terrain appears like it's 4.5km x 4.5km big, but have a navigable space of 500mx500m. Geology: Copper Porphyry Mine This open pit mine was once a productive copper porphyry deposit who’s steps and ramps have been largely eroded, now almost unrecognisable. The deepness and steepness of the pit have led to many sloughs and failures in the high wall, but in spite it's depth there still remains rich porphyry deposits below the lower levels.

The terrain itself is 500mx500m. It blends into a surrounding mesh that's 1.5km x 1.5km. Additionally a 4.5km x 4.5 km mesh is baked into the skybox. This means the terrain appears like it's 4.5km x 4.5km big, but have a navigable space of 500mx500m. Geology: Sandstone Canyon The thick sandstone layers of an ancient inland desert make up the bedrock in this interesting terrain. The canyon formed very rapidly from a cataclysmic event during a period of climatic transition. During the ending of the last ice age a huge glacial dam was breached, unleashing a flood of continental proportions. Where the powerful flood waters met this hard sandstone, steep-walled canyons formed channeling the water until they subsided.

Geology: Carpathian Mountain As an oceanic and continental plate converged, the marine sediments were scraped off like a bulldozer. These wedges of material were compressed, folded, and metamorphosed into great belts of very resilient rock. As the surrounding area was eroded away this mountainous range was left exposed.

Geology: Low-grade Metamorphic These inclined blocks of metamorphic bedrock were once part of a converging continental margin. Having been buried, compressed, and heated a few thousand meters beneath the surface, the deep-marine shales have been metamorphosed and hardened into a platey grey schist. Erosion and uplift has once again brought these rocks to the surface and a thin veneer of wind-blown aeolian sand is now blanketing the low elevations and crevices.

Geology: Undulating Aeolian Sandstone This curvy and undulating terrain is the result of wind and water erosion of lithified sand dunes of an ancient coastal margin. Their irregular nature reflects the interaction of erosion processes cutting thru the layered and waveform dune bedrock. Flash flooding events also contribute to the incising of narrow slot.

Geology: Lunar Terrae This pale lunar terrain is formed nearly exclusively by the process of bolide impact and cratering. These older lunar highlands have preserved a long history of collisions in which rock is pulverised, thrown out as ejecta, and deposited as successive layers of the soft lunar regolith.

Geology: Basaltic Volcanic Peak The basaltic lava which erupted from this volcano was high in metal content and low in silica causing it to flow and ooze in long running rivers and fingers of molten rock. The caldera at the summit was the source of many of the flows, however secondary and tertiary eruptions from the slopes have also occurred. The high nutrient content of the new soil allows vegetation to quickly take hold in this young landscape.

Now scarred by ages of impact cratering and impact beccia, the rough terrain is covered by a thin veneer of iron-oxide dust carried by intense winds in the thin atmosphere.

Much of an overlying sandstone unit has been worn away by wind action leaving flat-topped mesas behind and producing a large amount of sediment accumulating at their base.

Geology: Antarctic Volcano This cinder cone volcano lies well below the Antarctic circle and is one of the most prominent features in the icy landscape. The thick and sticky felsic lava retains a steep slope as it erupts. As erosion takes hold the freeze-thaw action of water further steepens the terrain in long rocky talus slopes.

The anoxic decomposition of organics produces trapped and entrained gas pockets which bubble to the surface occasionally, particularly when disturbed.

Geology: Basin and Range This inland terrain is formed by extensional tectonics where the continental crust is gradually pulled apart. Faults readily propagate in order to accommodate the extension, leaving some fault blocks higher than others. Subsequent erosion and deposition fills the deep valleys with thick sediment resulting in long flat basins between ranges. The intermediate elevations tend to be lush with vegetation while the valley floors and mountain peaks can be quite arid.

Geology: Aeolian Dunes Prevailing winds carrying sediment from distant sources are perturbed as they climb the windward side of a nearby mountain range. As the winds slow they can no longer carry the larger particles and the sand is deposited on the windward flanks. As more and more sand accumulates the process expands and migrates upwind leaving a vast landscape of rolling windswept dunes.

Geology: Alpine Glacier Fed by massive amounts of snow accumulation at higher elevations, the terminal end of this alpine glacier inundates the downstream landscape in aprons of mixed sediment ranging in size from silt to boulder. The ribbon-like glacial surface is stained by debris and marked by deep crevasses where internal stresses culminate. At the lower end, the last glacial advance is marked by a c-shaped moraine; in this area you may find ice caves where melt water has carved out cavities along the bedrock.

Geology: Tropical Archipelago Island This island originated from shallow marine deposition of thinly bedded but well-cemented limestone. Falling sea level exposed the rock layers to periods of erosion. Once exposed to the elements windblown sand began to form dunes and add to the terrain along the coasts. Due to a lack of well-established drainage swamps and marshes often occur at or near sea level. In the surrounding shallow waters coral reefs form atolls, occasionally rising above the surface as narrow island chains.

Geology: Glaciated Volcanic Mountains These peaks formed as violent cinder cone volcanoes, but quickly became inundated in snow and ice. Now dormant, the primary process affecting the landscape is glaciation from the large amounts of annual snowfall. These slow rivers of compressed ice act as giant bulldozers plowing sediment away from the peaks. These regions do not see flowing water at the surface, so you will not find old river beds or frozen lakes. The sun-facing areas are often covered with talus slopes of loose rock pried off by the freezing and thawing action of ice.

Geology: Postapocolypse The result of extreme climatic swings, this unusual terrain was once a wetland environment shaped by water erosion and deposition of thick sequences of organic matter. No without the precipitation nearly all vegetation has died off and the harsh arid climate lends only to sterile wind processes.

Geology: Tectonic Margin A series of faults cut across this tectonically active region near the plate’s margin. As shear stresses build, each block occasionally slides and grinds against the adjacent blocks releasing vast amounts of energy in the process. These earthquakes produce fault scarps, gouge zones, valleys and landslide features visible at the surface.

Geology: Rhyolite Mountain, Ash mountain The fine-grained rhyolitic rock composing this landscape fractures and erodes in sharp, conchoidal segments much like obsidian or glass on a large scale. Production of fine sediment easily travels down the smooth platey surfaces and accumulates atop the shallower slopes and more protected valleys.

Geology: Rift Zone, Tectonic Rift, Continental Rift Immense spreading forces from upper mantle have begun uplifting and rifting the crust at this junction on a continental plate. The normally flat and stable bedrock is now highly deformed as fault scarps emanate from the center. In this cold climate, erosion is slow leaving the landscape otherwise untouched.

Geology: Island Arc Volcano This island-arc volcano has grown rather rapidly and in recent times extensive pyroclastic flows and ashfall have blanketed its slopes with fine grey volcanic ash and tuff. A small but active caldera can be seen at the summit where small eruptions occasionally occur.
